The 1oz Iberian Lynx Gold coin is the first in a multi-part series of bullion coins known as the Spanish Doubloon. This became the first modern bullion coin that has been minted by The Royal Mint of Spain when it was released in 2021.
The Iberian Lynx is a 24 carat coin, containing a pure gold content of 31.1 grams. The 1oz Iberian Lynx has a face value of €1.50. However, the actual value of the coin, due to the gold content within it, is much higher.
The obverse of the coin depicts two globes, which represent the Western and Eastern hemispheres, underneath a crown with the Pillars of Hercules at each side. Details of the gold content and size of the coin are written in Spanish along the bottom of the coin. The reverse shows the Iberian Lynx, which is a wild cat that is native to the Iberian Peninsula. This side of the coin also shows the year, the face value, the Madrid Mint mark and the words ‘Lince Iberico’ which is Spanish for Iberian Lynx.
